Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — A week before the national elections, supporters of two national candidates are expected to flock to a Philippine bank to witness a unique "transaction" between public figures.
At issue is a claim by vice presidential candidate Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes that PDP-Laban standard bearer Rodrigo Duterte had lied in official documents about how much money he has.
But how exactly did it come to this?
CNN Philippines looks back at the events that led to this controversy between the Davao City Mayor and his accuser, Sen. Trillanes.
March 11: Duterte and runningmate Alan Peter Cayetano sign a waiver to open all their bank records to the public, calling on their opponents to sign the manifesto as well.
April 27: In a media interview, Trillanes calls Duterte a "fraud" for failing to declare in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) millions of pesos deposited in his bank accouts.
Trillanes says the Davao City mayor excluded at least P211 million in bank deposits in his 2014 SALN. He says the money is in Duterte's joint account with his daughter, Sara, in the Julia Vargas branch of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
Trillanes urges Duterte to sign a bank secrecy waiver to let the public scrutinize his bank accounts.
On the same day, Duterte denies the existence of the alleged BPI account.
The tough-talking mayor dares Trillanes to prove the allegation.
April 28: Duterte admits the existence of his BPI accounts, mentioning the Julia Vargas branch and other banks.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Trillanes claims the Davao Mayor is a "billionaire."
In a press conference, Trillanes challenges Duterte to sign the bank waiver at the BPI Julia Vargas branch on Monday (May 2). The lawmaker says he will be waiting for Duterte there at 11 a.m.
Duterte throws his own challenge at Trillanes: sign an affidavit under oath stating where and when he got his information and for what purpose.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Duterte's spokesperson Peter Laviña dismisses Trillanes' allegations as a smear campaign against the survey frontrunner.
Trillanes vows to resign from the Senate if his charges against Duterte turns out to be false.
Earlier in the day, a photo of a bank deposit slip circulated online, showing a transaction made in an account with the names of Duterte and his daughter, Sara.
April 29: Duterte agrees to open his bank account at the BPI Julia Vargas branch on Monday (May 2).
Duterte says he instructed his lawyer, Salvador Panelo, to have his bank account opened, as the presidential candidate will be in Davao City and will be campaigning in Zamboanga City.
Meanwhile, BPI releases an official statement denying there has been breach of client confidentiality in the wake of the controversy.
April 30: The Duterte camp explains the Davao City Mayor only has two accounts in BPI: one with a deposit of P17,000 and another with P27,000. The camp urges Trillanes to apologize to Filipinos for leaking "false information" against the presidential bet.
During a campaign concert at the Bonifacio Global City, Duterte says he is set to file charges against Trillanes for making his account public.
Duterte claims he has a shared account with his daughter so that somebody could withdraw the money in case something happens to him. The mayor says he was already separated from his wife when the account was opened.
May 1: Panelo, Duterte's lawyer, and Trillanes confirm to CNN Philippines that they will be at the BPI Julia Vargas branch on May 2.
